The Ministry of the Interior hosted awards from VU and VMU teachers and students for active participation in the Thalia (Responsible, Ethical and Sensitive Journalism on Trafficking in Human Beings) project, which aims to raise media awareness of trafficking and contribute to effective crime prevention.
"Trafficking in human beings is a very sensitive topic, so it is important to provide related information to the public ethically and responsibly. I believe that the aim of the project to establish cooperation with stakeholders and universities will strengthen the competence of future journalists, ”says the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė.
During the project, students from Lithuanian and foreign higher education institutions participated in a competition where they were invited to create films, photo cycles, publications and / or radio shows on human trafficking. The winner of the international competition was Urtė Vajavudzkaitė, a second-year student of the VU Analytical Journalism study program, and her head of the audiovisual narrative on child trafficking was Assoc. dr. Andrius Gudauskas.
Lecturers at the ministry were rewarded for taking the initiative, including the field of human trafficking in student curricula, and encouraging future journalists to take an interest in human trafficking.
