On 11 November, Dr. Zane Balčus, a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Journalism and Media Research, Faculty of Communication, will present a public lecture titled "Autobiographical Narratives of Family Histories in Recent Baltic Documentaries" at the University College London (UCL) School of Slavonic and East European Studies. UCL is ranked 9th in global higher education rankings and is widely recognized for its academic reputation.

Last week, the Faculty of Communication hosted Prof. Dr. Heiko Hartmann from Leipzig University of Applied Sciences. In an open seminar, Prof. Dr. Hartmann shared insights on modern book publishing and discussed the future of media use. Following the seminar, he agreed to share further thoughts in an interview. We discussed the changing reading habits of the younger generation and the strategies publishers use to attract buyers. Will the day come when printed books disappear?

 We kindly invite you to submit scholarly articles for a Special Volume of the Knygotyra (Book Science) International Scholarly Journal of Vilnius University. Deadline for submitting articles in Lithuanian and English is 10 January 2025.

The volume is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Professor Vladas Žukas (1925–2014). The editors of the journal are Prof. Habil. Dr. Domas Kaunas and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomas Petreikis. The special volume 85 will be published in December 2025.

Themes for the special volume include:

  • Book Science from the 20th century to the early 21st century;
  • Bibliographic research, applied activities, and studies from the 20th century to the early 21st century;
  • Research originators and making their heritage meaningful.

 On September 23rd at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., Professor Heiko Hartmann will lead two open seminars on the topic "The Future of Reading and Its Impact on Books and Media" at the Faculty of Communication.

Prof. Dr. Heiko Hartmann has been a professor of Book and Media Economics and Media Marketing at the Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur (HTWK) in Leipzig, Germany, since 2013. He held various management positions in non-fiction and academic publishing houses for 16 years. From 2009 to 2014, he was an honorary professor of Publishing Studies at the Free University of Berlin. His main research and teaching focuses include current problems of book economics and the relationship between media use and media publishing, as well as philological projects in the field of German medieval studies.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend. These sessions will be interactive: during the seminars, participants will be invited to actively discuss, reflect, and get involved.
