AD coveriui 1 1024x380Public lecture of journalist Elva Narcia Information saves lives – working on humanitarian news in South Sudan will take place at 1 pm on 26 May, in Vilniaus balsas auditorium, Institute of Journalism of the Vilnius University (Maironio str. 7, Vilnius). The language of the event is English.

South Sudan – an African country that has gained independence in 2011 from Sudan. After the civil war has started in 2013 the country suffers as one of the most fragile states in the world.

In her lecture Elva Narcia will present her experiences in South Sudan, where she worked with the radio station during the conflict, and will invite to discuss how information can save lives in the presence of extreme situations.

Elva Narcia is a media development specialist with professional work experience in Norway, Spain, UK, Mexico, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and South Sudan. Her recent work focused on women´s political rights. For 15 years she worked as an award winning Senior Journalist with the BBC World Service. After over twenty years living and working overseas as a journalist, media trainer and media project manager, she returned to her country of origin, Mexico, and founded the first media for development social enterprise Glifos Comunicaciones A.C , and launched a women´s national network to promote and encourage female civic and political participation.

The lecture is part of Africa days events, organized by the House of Europe under the EC funded project Media4development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, NGDO Platform and other organisations. The event is organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Communication of Vilnius University.
